BSA Troop 1441 Calendar

Boy Scouts of America, Troop 1441

White Oak District, National Capital Area Council

Sponsored by St John the Baptist Catholic Community

12319 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring MD 20904

(Previously sponsored for many years by the Colesville Presbyterian Church)

  • The troop was founded in June of 1968.
  • The Troop meets weekly on Thursday evenings from 7 PM to 9 PM.
  • The Troop goes camping about every fourth or fifth weekend (12 nights) throughout the school year and attends Camp Olmsted at Goshen Scout Camps for a week in July of each year. The Troop actively supports all District events (Camporees, Webelos Weekends, Buddy Hikes, Klondike Derbies, Popcorn Sales etc.)
  • The Troop has a high adventure program where every other year scouts go to Philmont or one of the other high adventure bases and in the interim year attend the Lenhok’sin Trail Backpacking Camp at Goshen Scout Camps.
  • The Troop maintains an active and successful Eagle advancement program providing the scouts with ample coaching and opportunities to learn and advance. Leadership and self reliance are stressed.
  • Troop leadership consists of the Scoutmaster, eight assistant Scoutmasters and Members of the committee (30 in all) who provide the logistics and support for the troop. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in support of the troop.
  • Annual dues for a scout are $80 for the first scout in a family and $70 for each additional sibling. Dues are due in December of each year for the following year.
  • Fundraisers are used to augment the troop treasury: Car Washes, Sales of Boy Scout popcorn and mulch sales are typical.
  • The Troop is non-denominational and most ethnic and religious groups are represented.
  • The Troop has a strict policy of no harassment or excessive horseplay allowed. Each scout is treated like a brother and the following of the Scout Oath and Law are stressed.
  • All of the Troop Leaders, Members of the Committee and parents who have direct contact with the Scout Program  are not only BSA Youth Protection Training (YPT) compliant, but have completed the ADW training and have been subjected to a background check.
