Training and Compliance

The Troop 1441 Youth Protection Policy:

Every Adult associated with Troop 1441 (not only those registered with the Boy Scouts of America) must have completed two Youth Protection Programs to participate in Troop 1441 activities:

1) BSA's Youth Protection Training (YPT, renewed every two years), and

2) The Catholic Church's one-time-only Virtus Training and background check

Activities where compliance is suggested, but not required:

- Non-participatory attendance at troop meetings, Courts of Honor, Social events (Picnics. etc).

- Assistance as labor on Eagle Projects.


Complete the following steps for compliance:

1) BSA Youth Protection Training:

Please save an electronic version (pdf) of the certificate, and forward it to Mr Allen.

2) Virtus Training and Background Check:

(2a) non-religious, non-denominational Protecting God's Children session

  • Create an account at

  • Click on "Registration" (in yellow on the left side of the page)

  • You will be prompted to follow registration process for one of the upcoming 3-hour training sessions. The list of training locations and dates is continually updated, and is accessible only to registered users. For convenience to Troop 1441 adults, a partial list is included below.

  • It is essential to sign in when you attend the training session. This is the primary record the Archdiocese uses to verify your attendance.

  • If you attend a class without first registering for it online, make sure you sign in, then, you must go back to to confirm you were there.

(2b) Review and sign the Child Protection Policy (attached, below)

(2c) Complete the Archdiocese of Washington Adult Volunteer Application (attached, below).

(2d) Initiate the electronic background check at the SJB Parish Office

Please do not show up at the office without an appointment.

Please note that existing background checks are currently not accepted. As a Troop 1441 adult volunteer, you will not be charged for the cost of the background check.

When you come to the SJB Parish Office for the electronic background check please bring:

    • Two forms of ID including one Photo ID (i.e. Driver's License) and any one of the following: Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Passport, Naturalization Card

    • Original Adult Volunteer Application Form

    • Acknowledgement Page from the Child Protection Policy Booklet

The background check takes about 3 weeks; SJB is notified only if there is a problem.

Your compliance with the youth protection policies will be considered complete about three weeks after the background check is initiated.
