John Wnek

Scoutmaster Troop 1441

To All

Summer is winding down and it is time to look forward to the coming Scout year.  The Troop has an exciting year planned.  We have the opportunity to assist at least three of our scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout before the end of 2013.

Our schedule calls for many camping trips and outings, summer camp and a canoeing trip to the Northern Tier High Adventure base in MInnesota.

We plan to be very active in support of our District, (White Oak), attending the Camporee, Webelos Weekend, Popcorn Sales and other activities.

We will be working very actively on our recruiting of new scouts and assisting Pack 499 by providing Den Chiefs for the Cubs and helping out at their functions.  All of this activity will require assistance from lots of people and we will be looking to the parents for volunteers to help make our program work. To insure the safety of our Scouts all adults assisting the troop will take child protection training.  We need everyone's help to make the year successful.

Schedule

The current schedule is attached, it has been through a number of scrubbings and is still subject to change as occasions warrant.

Our first meeting will be on Thursday August 29 at SJB Lyon Center with outside activities, weather permitting.  Please mark your calendars for our activities.

Service Projects

The Troop just completed the School Supplies Service Project for C4 and Colesville Presbyterian Church.  The scouts assisted with the preparing, packing and storing of school Backpacks full of pencils, paper, crayons, folders, rulers, etc., for grades K through 12.  Approximately 750 backpacks were prepared.  Thanks to the scouts and adults that volunteered their time and efforts ( 14 scouts and 11 adults, that's 75 volunteer hours).  The volunteer church members had nothing but great things to say aboutr our scouts.

There will be another "So Others May Eat" meal preparation project this October  and the Troop expects to be active there also.  More Details to follow.

Eagle Projects

Ben Lockwood, Alex Clipper and Jack Stutz are currently working on their Projects.  Ben is in the execution phase, while Alex and Jack are in the planning stages.  Ben' project will take place this weekend on Friday at 2 AM and Saturday at 9 AM Hugh's United Methodist Church 10700 Georgia Ave. Wheaton.

Our meeting room in the Lyon Center is still constricted as school building improvements are completed so we will be in cramped quarters and will spend more time outside, weather permitting.

We are looking forward to having another successful year and will not be able to do it without your help.  See me or Mr Allen for ways in which you can help.  Keep checking our Website, "Troop1441.com" for the latest news and information.

Yours in Scouting
