As part of our Journey to Excellence requirements the Troop conducts four Courts of Honor each year in conjunction with the change of the seasons.

The Troop will be recognizing the achievements of its members Thursday the 9th at the regular troop meeting.  Parents, friends and siblings are strongly encouraged to attend and support your scout.

KLONDIKE DERBY   1/17 thru 19/2014  Little Bennett Regional Park.

This is our annual Winter Camping Challenge where the scouts of our troop will compete with scouts from other troops in Montgomery County in displaying their scouting skills.   The Permission Slip is attached.  We will get there Friday (1/17) evening and return Sunday  1/19 in the morning.  Parents will be needed to drive to and pick up from the event.  Cost per person for the event is $15.00.

Meals will be by Patrol with a cost of $3 per meal payable to the Patrol Leader.

The Sleds we use need some repair and upgrading and we will start on Thursday 1/2 at the meeting.

PACK 499 VISIT    1/16  Thursday

The Webelos from Pack 499 will be visiting us on Thursday as part of their advancement requirements for the Arrow of Light and this provides us with the opportunity to recruit them for our Troop.  We always need new scouts to help the troop continue to survive and grow.

SCOUT SUNDAY 2/1-2/2

Each year the BSA celebrates its birthday at the beginning of February with a celebration of "A Scout is Reverent".  the Troop will be participating in Church activities on this weekend.  We need a couple of members of the Committee to help with the coordination of events.  Please contact me if you can assist.

BROAD CREEK FATHER/SON CAMP-IN  FEBRUARY 2/7-9/2014

Each year for the last 33 years the troop has conducted a Father/Son Cabin camping event where the scouts will face challenges in competitions by patrol.  the attending fathers will judge the scouts' performances and will face a challenge or two themselves.  SCOUTS MAY ATTEND EVEN IF THEIR FATHER DOES NOT.

Information as to what to bring, etc will be provided in the next week along with the permission slip.

DO TO STRICT REQUIREMENTS OF YOUTH PROTECTION PRACTICES ANY ADULT DIRECTLY INTERACTING WITH SCOUTS IN AN EVENT LIKE THIS MUST TAKE THE CHURCH'S VIRTUS TRAINING TO BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE..

Mr Hans Mair has the schedule and details for the training. Please contact him quickly if you are not trained to schedule a session.

The BSA also requires that you take Youth Protection Training through an on line 20 minute course. You do not have to be registered to take this course, just logon to the BSA web site ( www.ncacbsa.org) scroll down the page to Youth Protection training click and follow the instructions from there.

The safety of our scouts is paramount and the time spent with this training will help to insure it.
