BROAD CREEK FATHER/SON CAMP-IN.

    The Camp-in held this past weekend was an outstanding success based on the feedback received from various attendees.  44 scouts, dads and leaders attended on a spring like Saturday and Sunday.  The groups stayed in two cabins, Conowingo and Frontier and scouts from one cabin competed against the scouts from the other in a series of scout skill challenges.  Points were given for Teamwork, Leadership, Enthusiasm and Successful Completion.  The challenges included getting your team and its gear over a wide creek without getting wet and building a shelter to house and protect your whole team in a storm. 

    The scouts were also split into three man teams where they had to build, start a fire and boil a pot of water.  The scout selected to build each fire had to do it blindfolded. Lots of fun.  The final challenge was for each cabin to prepare and cook a beef stew from scratch.  This event resulted in a tie.

The final scoring was Frontier 37.6,  Conowingo 35.  Congratulations to the "old guys".  Both teams did a great job.

It is divided in to hourly segments so select as many hours as you can donate. There are also three categories of volunteers Drivers, Loaders, Leaders and administrators.

Fliers have been distributed and we are asking the troop to go out and take orders now for delivery on March 29th.

EAGLE SCOUTS

The troop has a new Eagle Scout, pending confirmation from National Headquarters. Alexander C. passed his Eagle Board of Review Monday evening.

BATTLESHIP NEW JERSEY TRIP  APRIL 12 AND 13

Reservations have been finalized and closed.  Transportation to the event will be discussed at the next troop meeting. 3/27.

TRAINING

Ms Noelle Flaherty, MR's Joshua Soderberg and John Wnek completed their Wilderness First Aid training the weekend of March 15 and 16.

SUMMER CAMP - CAMP OLMSTED, GOSHEN SCOUT RESERVATION, JULY 6 THRU 12.

Enrollment is now in full swing with the Council using an online registration process.

This year they are requiring full payment upon registration. 

Scouts $290 by April 25th, $330 by May 30th and $370 after that

Adults  $230 by April 25th,  $270 by May 30th, and $310 after that.

The bus fee is separate, $45 (Round trip or one way).

 Registrations will still have to be made through the troop though.

Please make checks payable to Troop 1441 BSA.  Register early and you scout gets a free Goshen cap.

TROOP MEETING CHANGES

Upcoming Church events have initiated a change in troop meeting schedules

There will be no meetings on Thursdays April 10th and 17th.

Those meetings have been switched to Tuesdays April 8th and 15th..

COURT OF HONOR  APRIL 3RD  AT TROOP MEETING.

The Winter Court of Honor will be held at the troop meeting. Parents friends and siblings are invited to attend and see their Scouts be recognized for their achievements this past quarter. Scouts have this week's meeting to complete any rank advancement in order to be recognized.  Volunteer MC's needed (FCFS)

CAMPOREE  APRIL 25-27

The Camporee this year will be held at the Piscataway Indian Museum and Cultural Resource Center in Waldorf Maryland.  The troop will be participating and assisting.

The Scouts will be able to earn Indian Lore merit badge.

We are planning to learn about their culture, songs, games, food, and much more – not only through hearing about it, but also by getting involved in it. We are going to provide some Piscataway recipes for your meals and see what unit best prepares the meals. Friday night after your camp is established, we will start with a welcoming campfire where your learning will start. Saturday morning after your breakfast we will have an introduction to the Piscataway and your day’s events, including a tour through the museum. Saturday night we will have another campfire where we will practice some of the things we learned during the day and hear some Piscataway “campfire” stories. Sunday morning right after breakfast we will do our Duty to God and learn about the spiritual Piscataway.

NORTHER TIER HIGH ADVENTURE TRIP JULY 17 THRU 25

Two Crews are in training for the trip and as the weather gets warmer there will be a lot of canoe type activities.  We do have one canoe and would like to borrow another.
