BATTLESHIP NEW JERSEY TRIP APRIL 12-13
Twenty five scouts, adults and leaders spent Saturday and Sunday on the Battleship New Jersey on the Delaware River in Camden, New Jersey. with about 300 other scout and cub units from around the Northeast. We "mustered in" around 5 PM and were given a ride on jet plane flight simulator. We were assigned to berths on the Mess deck, just a little crowded with bunks stacked three high and very narrow. Dinner was served after an excellent Colors ceremony and included chicken, mac and cheese, rolls and butter and lemonade. The troop was given a two hour tour of the ship, many rooms, passageways and stairs, Mr. Keegan can sure get around on his crutches.
There was some open time after the tour and the scouts got settled in. The ship had been soaking up the sun all day and the sleeping quarters were not air conditioned.
It was hot and gave everyone a better appreciation of what the sailors had to go through daily. It cooled down abut 3 AM and wake up was at 7:15 AM. Morning Flag ceremony and muster was held at 8 and then we went to breakfast, eggs, bacon, hash browns and cereal. The rest of the morning was spent in self guided tours.
It is one BIG ship.
